Tri-Agency Research Support Fund (RSF) Acknowledgment
As a small institution, DUC’s research programs and initiatives are handled by the Vice-President Academic Affairs’ office. The VP Academic serves as a Senior Liaison Officer (SLO) and a Master Liaison Officer (MLO) for the tri-agency, handling research grant applications for both students and faculty members. The VP Academic also manages the DUC’s library programs and services.
The two key areas of research services that DUC intends to use the funds from the RSF fall in the categories of research resources and research management. DUC commits to spending nearly 14,000 CAD on administrative support so that both the office of the VP Academic as well as the library can continue providing research support to both students and faculty (around 9000 CAD will be directed toward hiring a part-time research library assistant).
Thanks to the generous support of Carleton University’s library, a part of the terms of DUC’s affiliation with Carleton University, DUC enjoys access to three online library databases (ATLA, The Philosopher’s Index, and JSTOR), providing access to almost a million scholarly publications combined. 12,500 CAD will be spent on renewing the subscription to Koha, an online library platform which supports DUC’s library catalogues and search engines. In addition, the office of the VP Academic commits to spending around 3000 CAD on new hardware and software desperately needed for our Wilson room, a rare books collection, the prized possession of our library, as well as for our cataloguing needs. The VP Academic office will also use the RSF to purchase additional licenses for Adobe Pro (currently accessible only by the DUC administration), a necessary software preferred by most research grant agencies.
