DUC operates under its own governance model, independent administration, structures and regulations. Although informed by the democratic traditions of the Dominican Order, the governance of DUC, as in most universities, is bicameral. The Board of Administration oversees the financial and corporate affairs of the institution. The Academic Council designs and implements all policies and regulations with respect to academic life.
Proud of its francophone heritage, DUC is a member of the Consortium des universités de la francophonie ontarienne (C.U.F.O.). As a long-standing francophone institution, DUC is now officially bilingual and has adopted la Politique d’aménagement linguistique (PAL).
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) originates the rules, regulations and guidelines with respect to the funding of DUC through its host institution, Carleton University.
