Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) – B.Ph.

The Bachelor of Philosophy is a four-year program. Students completing this degree are expected to be highly qualified candidates for graduate studies in Philosophy. The program is designed to progressively acquaint students with the fundamental problems that are debated within Western philosophical thought, to introduce them to the concepts and techniques proper to philosophical thinking, and to develop skills necessary for rigorous, critical and independent thought. Particular attention is given to develop advanced knowledge of major philosophical movements, issues and philosophical systems of the ancient world, Middle Ages, early modern period and modern period, as well as current philosophical movements and main issues in metaphysics and in the theory of knowledge.

Students pursuing a bachelor in philosophy will also acquire the ability to write extended research papers on philosophical authors and themes, and construct a personal research program in view of graduate studies in Philosophy. The program includes a Final Oral Comprehensive Examination as a capstone experience.
